"Winners never quit, and quitters never win."
"Unlike team sports, in competitive swimming there is nowhere to hide!!"
"Train hard now - win later" Just a few that I like - Ian (Club Coach)
"Its better to swim a race and lose, than not to
swim at all" Comment recieved from Luke Curtis (Male vice captain). Thanks Luke, I agree with this comment; sometimes the race is against yourself & not others!
"The real contest is always between what you've done and what you're capable of doing. You measure yourself against yourself and nobody else."- Geoffrey Gaberino, Olympic Gold Medallist Comment recieved from a parent of members This I agree with, swimming is a very personal sport, one which you must strive to be the best that you can be.
"Never cheat coz your only cheating yourself". Comment recieved from Emma Jolly (club member). Thanks Emma, this is especially true when it comes to training, if you miss sets then don’t be surprised if you don’t achieve personal best times!
"Always swim hard and dont moan because you will go far with your swimming." Comment from lauren kenchington, a younger CBSC member. Of course Lauren is right, attitude is as important as physical ability, without a positive attitude towards training & competition your success will always be restricted – by you!
Also recieved from Lauren K: "If you want to be a pro swimmer then u will have to work hard towards it and make sure that your not cheating" Again I agree with this, cheating in training or competition is not the way to go about being the best! And "If you go in positive, you could come out of the pool with a P.B" Positive thinking is an important aspect of any sport, if you talk yourself out of a race before you even start you are not likely to do your best.
"I’m training my backside off so I can kick yours!" Comment recieved from Katrina Smith (club member). I think you have hit the nail on the head Kat!
"Seven days with out swimming makes one WEAK!" Another from Katrina. Again, very true!
"Want to come second? Follow me!!" Yet another from Katrina S. Don’t let your close rivals train in front of you, or finish in front of you!
This one I really like, good job it’s not true! From Katrina Smith ”Butterfly” ”A swimming stroke requiring (in theory) super human strength and extraordinary co-ordination but characterized (in-actuality) by randomly placed arm movements and erratic breathing patterns. Performance of this stroke is usually accompanied by incessant yelling on the part of the coach, sheer hysteria on the part of the parent and near drowning on the part of the swimmer”.
